Each lamp of Bocci's family 84.1 is made individually by true master craftsmen of glass. The technique to find this extraordinary form of lamp is to capture a bubble of white glass inside a basket of fine copper mesh and then, this, submerge it in hot transparent glass. Next, air is introduced into the matrix to push the white glass through the mesh, creating a delicate shape to serve as a pad that is suspended inside the thick outer layer of transparent glass. Sometimes, the copper mesh basket is folded and wrinkled indistinctly so it adds those unique finishing characteristics to each piece. The ripples in the outer form are a natural consequence of the manufacturing process and accentuate the subtle white interior "pillow" naturally. Finally, a low voltage LED or xenon light source is introduced into the piece, which emits a warm copper tone when the light is projected.
