Simon Schmitz, born in Arnsberg (West Germany), set up his studio in Hamburg after completing his studies at the "School of Art."
There he discovered the freedom, autonomy, and responsibility of being a designer. "Here are your studios, here's a pen, then go on." This taught him everything he needed to know about form, materials, processes, and most importantly: context. "If you don't know why you're doing what you're doing, don't bother doing it at all."
